Snowden’s Ridge
Silver Spring, MD
Snowden’s Ridge is a single-family affordable housing community located in Northern Silver Spring near to a commercial shopping district. Built in the early 1980s, the 13-building, 87-unit complex is divided by walkways connecting the parking lot to grassyhills. Having undergone sporadic renovations over the years, the community was in need of a comprehensive renovation ranging from structural repairs and stormwater management to modernizing interiors and the provision of energy efficient upgrades.
Miner Feinstein provided all design services for the extensive renovation as well as for the construction of a new accessible on-site leasing office/community center. The general configuration of the buildings remained essentially unchanged but did include the addition of a residential elevator to accommodate the adaption of five of the total dwelling units as accessible for Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS) compliance.
The new leasing office/community center is a two-story structure with a leasing office, conference room and business center on the first floor and a multi-purpose community space on the second floor that can be re-configured for after-school activities, community meetings, etc.
